“The first man” marks the begininng of the story of human creation in western theology.
Interpretations, depictions and the story revolving around him vary across many sects and cultures. Adam as refered to in the western region and Mahungu in western Africa.
This exhibition dares to introduce a different intrepretation of not only The first man but extends to the conventional presentation of the virtuous figures throughtout history. Amado Alfadni is a sudanese artist who is notably inspired by the African identity which forms part of his own, particulary intrigued by their spiritual believes which paved the way to his rebellious work that sought to present a different depiction of the holy. Alfadni drew inspiration from The Renaissance era which was originally inspired by the Roman and ancient Greek culture, and where art had taken a new form that sought to introduce Realism and a meticilous presentation of nature and human form.
As theology played an important role in this era, Amado’s work strives to eliminate the obvious preference in the Renaissance art to depict the saintly as non colored Roman figures by recreating a different perception through his African figures crowned with their auras.
